Play as one of the well known folklore characters from different cultures, and become the best gift giver around the globe!
Rulebook
Overview
Naughty or Nice is a light, set-collection, family board game, that can be played by 2-5 players, and is themed around folklore and the Holidays.
The characters in the game are various cultural and literary figures, each presented with appropriate abilities.
Additionally, the game features modular rules, meaning it can be played by anyone aged 4 to 99, with the complexity adjusted to suit the current players' needs. This makes it easy to teach and learn, and the rulebook helps to find the perfect setup for the suggested age groups.
Content
The base game includes 3 deck of cards,
40 creatures
48 presents
40 kiddos
and 8 different playable characters with unique abilities.
With the additional expansions (small card packs),
12 extra kiddos
3 extra Tomte
Baby Jesus kiddo promo card
the kiddo deck can go up to 53 cards and the creatures to 43 cards.
Gameplay
In the game players take turns, choosing 1 from 3 basic actions,
making presents (drawing present cards)
giving presents (scoring kiddo cards)
summoning creatures (getting new action cards)
Between actions players can play creatures to help their progress or hinder their opponents. In the base game 12 different type of creatures can be found. All 8 playable characters have interesting strategies and synergies built on different creatures.
This way this simple game can be so strategic, we even have competitions!
Plans
Right now the games' availability is very limited and we are looking for new distribution partners to spread it more widely.
We are also planning new language versions for future print runs, like German and Spanish.
We are also planning to add smaller expansions with new character cards and creatures. Look out for these on future conventions and events!
How it was made
Approach
As Naughty or Nice was our first self published game, we wanted it to be absolutely perfect before creating the crowdfunding page for it.
We developed the game during an intense 2 year period. We had over 1000 tests, both public and focused until it reached the last iteration. We are proud to say, that the decisions shaping our game were broad and many. Our goal was to create a family game in the sense of making it for the whole family, not just simplifying it for the youngest at the table. From all the feedback we got, we know, that this goal is achieved.
